Montgomery County Rabbit Show 2012
MARKET RABBIT DIVISION Arrival Time – Saturday, April 14th, 8:00 – 9:00 a.m., pre-weigh-in
9:00 – 10:00 a.m., weigh-in
Judging Date – Saturday, April 14th, 10:00 a.m.
1. This division is subject to the General Rules and these Division Rules: ARBA & TRBA eliminations and disqualifications to apply. This is a Youth Show. A Youth must present and remove the meat pen. If an exhibitor requires a General Exception Form (refer to Page 2), it will be due when Intent to Show forms are turned in. Each application will be reviewed for compliance.
2. Eligibility as per General Rules – One (1) pen per exhibitor.
3. Only meat pens will be shown. The following is the Rabbit class: Class – Pen of three (3) Rabbits. A pen consists of three rabbits, either sex, same breed and variety not over 70 days old and weight not UNDER 3 pounds each and not to exceed 5 pounds each. Breed date for rabbits is Thursday, January 5, 2012. Exhibitors may only tag their rabbits for Montgomery County.
4. All Rabbits will be weighed at designated time. A Pen which is overweight or diseased will be sifted and immediately removed from the Fairgrounds. First three Rabbits weighed will be the pen – no substitutions. ARBA – tattoo in left ear (legible and permanent).
5. Exhibitors are responsible for providing equipment, feed and water for their Rabbits at all times. Exhibitors who fail to comply with this rule will not be allowed to show the following year.
6. NO CARRYING CAGES, FEED, ETC. WILL BE ALLOWED TO REMAIN IN THE SHOW AREA.
7. The use of drugs not approved for Rabbits used for human consumption will not be allowed.
8. Exhibitors must own the doe(s) by November 18, 2011. Only offspring from this doe(s) will be eligible for the meat pen.
9. TO ENTER AND TO BE ELIGIBLE TO SHOW, EXHIBITORS MUST TURN IN AN INTENT-TO-SHOW FORM BY 5:00 P.M. ON NOVEMBER 18, 2011. NO FAXES WILL BE ACCEPTED. ALL RABBITS MUST BE REGISTERED AND TATTOED WITH THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY FAIR ON THURSDAY, MARCH 22, 2012 FROM 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. IN THE HORSESHOE CLUB AT THE FAIRGROUNDS. NO MORE THAN 20 RABBITS PER EXHIBITOR MAY BE TAGGED IN. PERMANENT TATTOO WILL BE PLACED IN THE RIGHT EAR. Exhibitors should be present. A parent or guardian MUST be present in order to sign tag-in cards.
10. Entries are due in the Fair Office FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2012 BY 5:00 P.M. WITH A $20.00 ENTRY FEE.
ONLY RABBITS THAT HAVE BEEN SHOWN IN THE MCFA MARKET RABBIT SHOW ARE ELIGIBLE TO BE SHOWN IN SHOWMANSHIP. JR. AND SR. SHOWMANSHIP IS OPEN TO ALL EXHIBITORS WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE. YOU PAY $5.00 (CASH) AND THE WINNER IS AWARDED ALL PROCEEDS.
ALL SALE ANIMALS MUST BE CHECKED OUT BY 10:00 A.M. ON THURSDAY MORNING FOLLOWING THE AUCTION. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN PREMIUM MONIES BEING FORFEITED.

Willis 4H will be adding “Meat Pen Rabbits” to their annual Pig, Lamb and Goat Show. Pens consist of 3 rabbits approximately 70 days old weighing 3 to 5 pounds and will be judged in the same manner as at the Montgomery County Fair. Optimal breed date for this show is OCTOBER 1st. The rabbits will be weighed in but there will be no disqualifications based on weight. Rabbits weighing over 5 pounds may still compete but may receive a fault at the discretion of the judge. Exhibitors can enter multiple pens but can only win one buckle. A rabbit clinic including showmanship will follow the show. Weigh in will begin at 9AM and judging begins at 10AM.

This show is subject to the Houston Livestock Show General Rules and Regulations and to the Special Rules of this section. Where Special Rules conflict with other rules, Special Rules prevail.
Special Rules for Youth Meat Pen Rabbit Show
1. Show Sanctioning: This show is officially sanctioned by the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) and is conducted in accordance with its latest revised rules. An ARBA Registrar will be present at the show. Times the Registrar will be available for registering rabbits will be posted in the rabbit show area.
2. Sanctioned Breeds: Californian, Champagne D‟Argent, Cinnamon, Creme D‟Argent, New Zealand, Palomino, Satin
3. Entry Requirements: Two meat pens of three rabbits each per exhibitor, no alternates, will be accepted. Only one meat pen per exhibitor will have the opportunity to advance to the top 30. In the event that a judge selects two meat pens from the same exhibitor to be placed in the top 30, only the higher placing pen from that exhibitor becomes eligible to be awarded a top 30 premium. Rabbits will all be of the same breed and variety, but do not have to come from the same litter. Rabbit age limit is 10 weeks. Minimum weight is three pounds for each rabbit and maximum weight is five pounds for each rabbit.
4. Exhibitor Eligibility: Exhibitor must be enrolled in a public or private, elementary, or secondary school in Texas. Exhibitor must be at least in the third grade or 8 years old, but not older than 18 years old on the day that judging begins. Exhibitor must be a legal Texas resident.
5. Animal Ownership: Exhibitor must own the doe or does from which they pick their meat pens. Random checks will be made regarding doe and babies and both the doe and babies must be available for random checks through the show date. Rabbits‟ location must be filled out on the entry application if rabbits are housed at a location other than the exhibitor‟s residence and/or if exhibitors mailing address is a post office box.
6. Breeding Date: Breeding date is Dec. 5, 2010 for the 2011 Show.
7. Check-In and Judging: Animals will be inspected at check-in. Exhibitors must remove animals from the Show grounds that are showing symptoms of any contagious disease at check-in or later in the Show. Rabbits will be checked for disqualifications and continue through the judging process. Only the top 30 meat pens will be cooped, and they will be cooped for the duration of the Youth Rabbit Show.
8. Identification: Rabbits must have a permanent tattoo in the left ear and the Houston Livestock Show special tattoo in the right ear. The Houston Livestock Show tattoo will be placed in the rabbit‟s right ear on Feb. 12, 2011, by a Houston Livestock Show committee person. Exhibitor will be notified of the time and location for this tattooing. Tentative tattoo locations include: Belton, Ft. Worth, Henderson, Houston and San Antonio. Locations are subject to change.
9. Care of Animals: Exhibitors must bring water and feed containers. Exhibitors are responsible for feeding and watering their own rabbits.
10. Show Competition: Animals in locked cages at show time will not be shown.
11. Sales: Exhibitors are not allowed to sell animals unless the animals are entered in the show. Exhibitors selling rabbits must obtain a release from Rabbit Show Committee for all animals sold before removing the animals from the Show grounds. Rabbits not entered in the Show are not allowed on Show grounds. “For Sale” signs are not allowed.
12. Check-Out: Only the exhibitor may check-out his or her rabbits. Animals left after check-out time will forfeit awards, ribbons, and money & the exhibitor will not be allowed to show the following year.
